Aurora Cultural Arts District (ACAD) Gallery & Studios Internship
Aurora Cultural Arts District (ACAD) offers internships in the fall, spring, and summer terms. An internship with ACAD is a terrific opportunity to pursue an interest in arts management while making a valuable contribution to the vibrant artistic community in Ward 1 of North Aurora.
To be an ACAD intern you must be currently enrolled as a student at an accredited educational institution for the internship semester. Prospective interns must demonstrate self-motivation and a commitment to the arts and to the mission of Aurora Cultural Arts District. It is strongly advised that applicants for semester internships are declared or intended Art or Business majors or minors.
The ACAD Gallery intern’s duties will include both assistance with clerical gallery processes and events as well as development and implementation of self-initiated projects.
One of the primary roles of the intern will be to help staff the ACAD Gallery and Gift Shop and maintain the daily operations of both spaces. Operational duties include engaging with visitors to the gallery, facilitating art and product sales, and routine facility maintenance. The intern may also be involved in maintaining inventory records, updating and producing content for social media, and installing exhibitions.
Interns will determine a specialized project goal in conversation with the Gallery Manager Satya Wimbish, ACAD Board President, who oversees the internship program. Special projects will result in a deliverable that contributes to the needs of ACAD while benefiting the personal development of the intern.
ACAD Gallery interns provide unique insights and valuable support to gallery practices and programming. Through the development of personal projects, interns will both benefit ACAD Gallery and complete independent, skills-building projects.
Internships will be offered during the fall, spring and summer semesters. First term internships are unpaid. Multiple semester interns may qualify for a stipend after their first term. Eligible students will be notified of available stipends during application.
The ACAD Gallery Intern position runs approximately 14 weeks.
Interns will be expected to staff the gallery and gift shop for a minimum of 10 hours per week. Primary gallery work days are Thursday, Friday, and Saturday between the hours of 10am-7:30pm.
