DAVA - Internship and Volunteer Opportunities

 

Working in Art Programs for urban Youth after school or /and during the summer 
Downtown Aurora Visual Arts (DAVA) offers year-round art programs for youth ages 3 to 17. We accept volunteers and interns all year with a higher need during our busy summer months. We are currently looking for interns and volunteers to assist in all programs all year, and additional interns during the summer (June 5 to August 4)
Candidates with education or experience in one or more of the following areas are encouraged to apply: fine arts (ceramics, sculpture, painting, drawing, fiber arts, printmaking, electronic and digital media, video) we are also looking for students with knowledge of robotics, coding and film production, art education, education, social work, nutrition or early childhood education. Candidates must have a strong desire to work with youth in a very diverse environment. This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in teaching art and working with youth in a non-profit art organization.
 
*Candidates with some knowledge of Spanish or any other languages spoken in the neighborhood including Somali, Burmese, Karen, Nepali, … are strongly encouraged to apply.
 
Volunteers and interns work in programs commit to a regular schedule. Programs include: a drop in art studio for ages 7 to 17, job training programs in visual arts and digital media for ages 11 to 14, a drop in family arts program for ages 3 to 6 with parents, a gallery and a portable art school. Volunteers will be assigned to programs according to their interests, availability and skills. In all programs, students learn creative skills, art techniques and social skills. Interns and volunteers can work from 4 to 40 hours a week depending on their availability.
 
Responsibilities include:
● Work with program manager and program leaders to design a variety of art projects
● Assist during class time, including projects set up and clean up
● Be a positive and inspiring model for youth
● Depending on the student’s interests and hours, students can also help with kiln firings, data entry, office duties, project planning and preparation, gallery set up, presentation of students’ works, video editing, outreach and marketing.
 
A background check and interview is required for all volunteers and interns.
